چکیده
Wildlife mortality caused by domestic cats is evident where free-roaming house are present in the tropical Andes region, a phenomenon for which there lack of scientific reports. Our goal to plausible range estimates potential avoidable number birds killed Colombia. We calculated as product cats, proportion with at least some outdoor access, that hunt wildlife, annual predation probability, and adjustments total prey cats. extracted such data not only from public records, but also citizen science study, we circulated questionnaire examine cat owners’ attitudes toward impact on wildlife during 2020 2021 COVID-19 lockdowns estimated three 12 million annually urban suburban areas. In addition, kill eight 29 vertebrate fauna The estimate provides first figure magnitude an anthropogenic cause These would be more rigorous if unowned or feral population size Colombia was better known. Because most pet roam outdoors without supervision their growing, they pose increasing threat wildlife. Intervention urgent mitigate bird

Detection and identification of Malassezia species in domestic animals and aquatic birds by PCR-RFLP
The present study aimed at detection and species-level identification of the Malassezia yeasts in domestic animals and aquatic birds by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Samples were collected using tape strips and swabs from 471 animals including 97 horses, 102 cattle, 105 sheep, 20 camels, 60 dogs, 30 cats, 1 hamster, 1 squirrel, 50 aquatic birds a...

متن کاملCats protecting birds revisited.
In this paper, we revisit the dynamical interaction among prey (bird), mesopredator (rat), and superpredator (cat) discussed in [Courchamp, F., Langlais, M., Sugihara, G., 1999. Cats protecting birds: modelling the mesopredator release effect. Journal of Animal Ecology 68, 282-292]. First, we develop a prey-mesopredator-superpredator (i.e., bird-rat-cat, briefly, BRC) model, where the predator'...
متن کاملGenetic testing in domestic cats.
Varieties of genetic tests are currently available for the domestic cat that support veterinary health care, breed management, species identification, and forensic investigations. Approximately thirty-five genes contain over fifty mutations that cause feline health problems or alterations in the cat's appearance. Specific genes, such as sweet and drug receptors, have been knocked-out of Felidae...
